Floods Devastate Mozambique and South Africa, Death Toll Continues to Rise

Death toll from floods in Mozambique and South Africa continues to climb | AfricanewsAs heavy rains continue to batter Southern Africa, the death toll from devastating floods in Mozambique and South Africa has reached alarming levels. With thousands displaced and entire neighborhoods submerged, authorities are scrambling to respond to the crisis.

Floods Wreak Havoc in Mozambique
Mozambique has been hit particularly hard by the floods, with over 110 people killed since early October. The National Disasters Management institute reports that more than 37,000 people have been affected, with many forced to flee their homes. Rivers across the country have burst their banks, causing widespread destruction and chaos.

South Africa Also Suffers Heavy Losses
Across the border in South Africa, the death toll has risen to 37, with authorities warning that it will continue to climb. President Cyril Ramaphosa has attributed the crisis to climate change, emphasizing the need for funding to support less privileged countries in dealing with severe weather events.

Rescue Efforts Underway
In response to the disaster, South Africa has sent a search and rescue team, including a helicopter, to assist Mozambique's operations. President Daniel Chapo has called off his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos due to the crisis.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is clear that the floods have had a devastating impact on both Mozambique and South Africa. With thousands displaced and many lives lost, it is essential that international support is provided to aid in the relief efforts and help these countries recover from this disaster.
